Mason’s Grill is a family owned and operated restaurant that has been serving the best food in Baton Rouge since 1998. Mike Alfandre, the owner and head chef, began his culinary career in the early 1980s at local restaurants in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas. By the mid-1990s Mike and his wife, Shirlee, decided that they wanted to open their own restaurant.
Many people don’t know this, but Mason’s Grill actually started as small coffee shop on Sherwood Forest Blvd. With only nine tables and a few flavorful varieties of homemade muffins, Mike and Shirlee had their own business! Mike soon realized that it would be impossible to immediately turn the coffee shop into a full service restaurant, so he started by creating a “business lunch and dinner” menu that included a few different sandwiches, soups, and salads. As business began to boom, he decided to add a small breakfast menu that included Eggs Benedict. Boy did people love the Eggs Benedict! And from that, came our famous Brunch!
Sixteen years later, we are located in a much larger building on Jefferson Hwy. with two dining rooms, a full bar, and a patio. Serving lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, brunch, lunch, and dinner on Saturday, and brunch and lunch on Sunday, we have certainly grown.
Though we are bigger now than when we opened in August of 1998, our philosophy on food and customer service has not changed—we want to make the best quality food, with the freshest of ingredients from local Louisiana distributers at a price the average family can afford while also providing you with friendly service. We want every customer to feel like and be treated as a “regular” – as family!
We are famous for our Bloody Masons (Voted Best Bloody in America by the Judges of Chopped, sponsored by Absolut), Bottomless Champagne Brunch, and Cajun Shrimp Burger (Voted Best Burger in Louisiana and top 50 in America by the Food Network Magazine in 2009 and by ZAGAT in 2013), but there is so much more for you to try! So come by anytime–we’re ready to serve you!
